Polled results in December 2018

Gene tests for polled from 4 recent chips (GeneSeek Genomic Profiler LD Version 4, GGP Bovine 50K, Illumina BovineSNP50 BeadChip Version 3, and EuroG10K Version 7) were used but were incorrectly merged with polled status from the breed associations, where P denotes heterozygous, PP denotes homozygous, and TP or NP denote not polled. Gene tests from the chips only report 1 of the 2 main mutations (Celtic or Friesian) that cause polled. Animals tested free of 1 mutation may still express and transmit polled from the other mutation. Breed association status reports the inheritance of either mutation (see “Jersey haplotype for Polled” in https://queries.uscdcb.com/reference/changes/eval1312.htm). Use of the chip tests caused under-reporting of both heterozygous and homozygous polled status for some animals tested with these chips and other related animals sharing these same haplotypes. The problem was detected too late to reprocess the December file, so correction could not be applied. Please consider that only animals with breed association polled results, gentoyped with the 4 recent chips are expected to be affected. The next full month processing for January will return to only using the breed association data to impute the haplotypes and polled status for all animals.
